Shimano MW80 Winter Cycling Shoes Review

If you’re anything like me you will love putting the miles in over winter weekends but hate the winter commute.

Like so many cyclist I completely neglect my feet when cycling during winter. I either use thicker socks or throw on a pair of overshoes.

This year however I decided to buy a pair of winter cycling shoes. Straight away I noticed the difference, they feel heavier and more rugged and most of all - warmer.

The pair I used was the Shimano MW80.

The shoes feature a Gore-Tex lined insulated inner which lets your breath while still keeping water out and a Polyurethane coated leather upper provide protection from the worst elements and is highly durable.

The tall neoprene ankle cover with water resistant splash guard fits snugly using a Velcro-style closure to help reduce mud and water ingress. An aggressive mud-shedding rubber tread pattern helps add extra traction and the Texon midsole and fibreglass reinforced outer sole give a lightweight and supportive platform to aid pedal power.

As with all shimano shoes the build quality is spectacular and you really get a sense that these shoes will last well over 4 years. With 6 months of winter weather in the UK buying a pair of winter cycling shoes makes real sense and come on if you get 4 years out of them it works out at only £25 a year. Well worth the investment.

I know guys who use this logic with their race cycling shoes and summer shoes so it would be a shame not to use it for your winter shoe.

The Shimano MW80 really is the best winter cycling shoe on the market and I really would give them 9/10.
