How Long Do Cycling Shoes Last?

We get quite a few emails each week asking about how long a normal pair of cycling shoes might be expected to last and the answer is I honestly can’t say. In fact I asked a number of the guys and girls in our office and none of them seemed to be able to come up with an answer.

Cycling shoes aren’t anything like running shoes or gym shoes in that where you can roughly say that a pair of running shoes might take 500 miles of punishment and then need replacing. Cycling shoes don’t live by this rule.

I ride to work and back five days a week and the pair of shoes that I wear on my daily commute I have had for the past two years and are still not showing any signs of wear and tear.

If you are doing any off road cycling then you might expect a pair of shoes to last a year or less.

The main wear and tear to cycling shoes is to the cleat and these are thankfully a lot cheaper to change that a pair of bike shoes.
